Taller buildings could soon come up near water bodies and acquifer recharge areas in the Chennai Metropolitan Area. The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has formed a committee to undertake a scientific study of such areas, with a plan to change the rules and increase the floor space index (FSI). Currently, construction is permitted only 15 metres from water bodies and acquifer recharge areas, with a maximum FSI of 0.8.

The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board issued a statement that all building projects including multi-storied apartment buildings, IT parks, commercial establishments having built-up area more than 20,000 sq m shall get consent to operate from the TNPCB under the Water (P&CP) Act, 1974 and the Air (P&CP) Act, 1981. Even construction projects with built-up area less than 20,000 sqm, if they are provided with sewage treatment plant should also get consent of the board for effective monitoring of operation of such plants, the statement said.

A draft of the revised master plan for Mangaluru City, which is being prepared by the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (Muda), is likely to be ready in two months. The new master plan for Mangaluru will be published only after hearing people’s objections to the draft. The authority has been working on the revised plan as per the guidelines of Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme.

MUMBAI: The BMC is gearing to auction as many as 65 properties of property tax defaulters in the city. Property tax defaulters owe the BMC a total of Rs 16,624 crore. More than Rs 10,000 crore of this outstanding amount is under litigation though. The ward that tops in property tax outstanding is G-South (N M Joshi Marg, Prabhadevi, Worli) with an outstanding of Rs 1,708 crore.

The Uttarakhand high court prevented builder Upendra Jindal from constructing a motorable road in the reserved forest of Nainital's Pangoot area. The order came as the court was hearing a PIL filed by the gram pradhan of Budhiakot (which falls under the Pangoot area). The PIL added that rather than a pedestrian path, the builder started constructing a motorable road. The petitioner also alleged that the forest area falls under the Naina Devi Bird Conservation Centre.

Indore is all set to have a digital address system with Indore Smart City Development Limited (ISCDL) signing up a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a city-based start-up to launch a mobile application for allotting a unique digital doorstep number for all property free of cost. The mobile application — ‘Pataa’ — which has already been launched, focuses on simplifying a long address into a digital code and making navigation process a lot simpler without charging anything from the users.

Agarwal Holdings, a group entity of pharmaceutical manufacturing company Macleods Pharmaceuticals, has acquired a nearly two-acre land parcel and a structure built on the same in plush Juhu locality of Mumbai for Rs 332 crore in two separate transactions. This is the second property bought by Agarwal Holdings in Juhu. Last year, the company had acquired a bungalow in this locality dotted with bungalows and residences of Bollywood personalities and industrialists.

TVS Emerald, the real estate division of the TVS Group, is entering the Bengaluru residential market as part of a plan to double the size of its portfolio in the next three years with an investment of more than Rs 1,000 crore. The intended investment will see the Chennai-based company develop more than 4.9 million sq ft of residential properties in Chennai and Bengaluru.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has received 566 applications for regularisation after over 7,000 structures were identified as illegal. These structures have come up for regularisation per the Development Control Regulations of PMRDA, 2018. Of the structures that have been regularised, the maximum proposals have come from Haveli followed by Maval and Mulshi.

Bosch has leased around 2.5 lakh sq. ft. office space in Hyderabad to expand its operations in one of the largest office lease deals in the city in recent times. The new facility is at Sattva Group-owned office park-Knowledge city. The software major will be paying a rental of around Rs 120 per sq. ft or around Rs 30 crore annually. The lease term has a five-year lock-in period with a 9-year lease.
